From the rainforest to the beach in PR

Our first full day in Puerto Rico started with a visit to El Yunque National Forest. As the US National Forest Service puts it,

“Located in Puerto Rico’s Northeast Region, El Yunque National Forest is the only tropical rainforest in the [US] national forest system. At nearly 29,000 acres, it is one of the smallest in size, yet one of the most biologically diverse. Come experience the breathtaking scenery, clear mountain rivers, and outdoor recreation opportunities year round.”

After a quick breakfast, we headed out early. The early start might have hurt a little; all Ella said when the alarm went off was “No!” but it was worth it. We had time alone to hike and swim in the river, and we weren’t stuck in the line of cars trying to access the park later in the day.

A missing hotel in Puerto Rico

Note: If you’re among the few who subscribe to this blog and forgot. Hi. 👋 We’ve done some travel post-pandemic, but I haven’t been good about writing since before. Trying to get back at it, maybe even catch up on some missed trips eventually.

We had chosen India for our next trip. It’s a large and hectic country, so we decided to travel with Intrepid so that we would have someone else taking care of all the details.

Of course, that was before the Indian government was alleged to have ordered some assassinations, including one in Canada, and then got really pissy when it was suggested that maybe this wasn’t ok. So, no visas to visit India for us Canadians, and here we are in Puerto Rico.

Floating around Pucon

White water rafting has always intrigued me. We had a taste while canoeing on the Belize River back in 2009. At the time, I certainly didn’t think the next time I went down a rapid (even a lowly class II) it would just be me and a three year old in the boat.

Ella Takes Istanbul

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to travel with a celebrity?

One thing we didn’t anticipate about travelling with Ella is her celebrity status. Who knew that at 4 months old she would be so popular with the Turks.

Three ways bringing an infant has changed our approach to travel

Wow, it’s been awhile since I’ve written anything here so, dear non-existent reader, let’s get you caught up.

When we last spoke we were in Malta. Here’s the Coles notes version of how that ended: We had a great time. It wasn’t our favourite country, but we’re glad we went. The highlight was definitely our trip to St. Peter’s Pool. If you’re interested I’ll write more about that another time. Feel free to let me know in the comments below.

After Malta? Well, we went home… yada, yada, yada…had a baby and now it’s time for our next trip.

Yes, we’re still travelling

It was interesting how many people there were who’s first reaction upon learning that Katy was pregnant was to say, “I guess that means you won’t be traveling any more”. What!? Not at all. Really it just means that we now have to consider doing a bunch of countries for a second time because Ella is WAY behind! Three things we learned on the way to Malta

Getting to Malta is actually relatively easy. There’s an international airport with flights coming in regularly from London, Holland, France and, in our case, Rome, among others.

As I write this, I’m sitting by the pool at our farmhouse in Gozo, but a few hours ago we thought we would be spending a little more time in Rome than planned.
